Set up VLC for the VLC Remote
NB: It is much easier to do this setup with the Setup Helper.
Open VLC by double-clicking its icon from the Desktop or by searching for VLC in the Start menu. Click the Tools option from the menu bar at the top of the window and choose Preferences. You can also choose the Ctrl + P key combination to open it. Open VLC Preferences. Is a problem with the smb password / authentication (also i don’t think so) - I have set my SMB password inside VLC preferences with no improvements. All my other devices (Apple Laptops, Windows Laptops, Phones, etc.) can access the Mac Mini server and play videos without ANY issues. Devices and Mac OS X version. VLC media player requires Mac OS X 10.7.5 or later. It runs on any Mac with a 64-bit Intel processor or an Apple Silicon chip. Previous devices are supported by older releases. Note that the first generation of Intel-based Macs. VLC is the king of all media it plays almost anything on any platform, any time, any place. Lately, however, I’ve been having issues with VLC skipping whenever I’m playing high-def media streaming over a network.

A) Enable the HTTP Interface
- Open the VLC settings
- VLC Menu/Preferences
- Click 'Show All' to show the advanced settings
- Enable the interface
- Click on Interface, then Main interfaces
- Select the 'Web' checkbox.
- This should show 'http' in the text box
B) Set your password
- Click on the Lua icon on the left
- Enter a password under Lua HTTP
- The default password we use is 'vlcremote' if you use this password, then the remote will connect automatically without you needing to re-enter your password.
- Click save to save your preferences
- Quit VLC and reopen it.
C) Check that your firewall allows connections to VLC
Launch the System Preferences application, then click on Security and then Firewall Safend others driver download for windows.
The simplest option (the one I use) is to simply leave the firewall off - but assuming you have it turned on then click on the lock on the bottom left to unlock the settings, then click on advanced on the bottom right.
Make sure that you specify that VLC should allow incoming connections
D) That's it!
By now, you should be able to see your computer in the VLC Remotes page under 'Found Computers'. If VLC is running on your computer, then you should see a Traffic cone next to the computer entry.
You can then select that computer and control it remotely.
